10 on 10 || Decorating Cookies || February 2019 || Vancouver Family Photographer

This months 10 on 10 blog circle is decorating Valentine’s cookies. We went to the store a couple weeks ago and she saw some cookies and wanted to decorate them. So I said I would get them closer to Valentine’s day. So the other day I brought them home and showed her and she of course wanted to make them that day. So I popped them in the oven, made the icing and then got my camera out and let her decorate! As you can see from the first photo she was very excited and you can’t decorate without having a little taste of the icing before your all done!

Continue on with the blog circle and head on over to Blueberry Hill Images and check out Jennifer’s latest post HERE!

Ashauna’s 8th Birthday || Abbotsford Birthday Photographer

My niece Ashauna turned 8 last month and she celebrated with a high tea themed birthday party. There was tons of food and lots of treats. I think the adults were more into the food than the kids (which was delicious and I definitely enjoyed it). But the kids were busy having fun playing. They played musical chairs (they improvised and used pillows instead). My nephew Ayden even put on a little magic show, it was very entertaining! And then of course they got to each some cake! The beautiful cake was made by Just Cakes.

Documentary Family Sessions || Vancouver Family Photographer

What is a Documentary Family Session?

It is a session where I capture a day in the life of your family. The session can take place in your home or an outdoor location. I follow you along and document your day. This can be a regular day at home including playing games, cooking, eating, doing laundry and anything you do on a daily basis. Or it could be an outdoor activity such as going for a walk, to the park, or to the beach. It could also be a special tradition such as going to the pumpkin patch, decorating the Christmas tree or family get togethers). The session could be anything you want it to be. I would basically be a fly on the wall following you around and taking photos of your day! My goal in these sessions is to capture real moments in your life as it is now!

What if you don’t like getting your photo taken?

A Documentary session is perfect for anyone who doesn’t like to get their photo taken. There is no preparation and NO stress. You do not have to get dressed up, you do not need to worry about your kids cooperating and smiling for the camera and there is no posing. You don’t even have to look at the camera! It is super relaxed and fun. You won’t even know I am there. All you have to do is be yourself and spend some quality time with your family doing what you love to do on a daily basis.

What I love about Documentary Photos?

I have a 3 year old daughter and she is at such a fun age right now. She has such a big personality and I love watching her develop. She is also very funny and keeps us entertained all day with the things she does and says and her many expressions. Documentary photos capture real life and emotion. I love being able to capture genuine moments of her playing with bubbles, reading a book, helping me in the kitchen, the struggle of naptime, etc. These are the memories I want to have and be able to pass on to her as she gets older. Time goes by so fast so it is nice to be able to freeze some of these moments and look back on them years from now.

What do clients think about Documentary sessions?

“We recently had Jessica come to our home to do a documentary session for a day in the life of our family. We could not be more pleased with Jessica’s photos and the candid memories that were captured that day. From the look on our daughter’s face when she was trying to hide behind a leaf during hide and go seek, to the cuddles my husband received during an impromptu story-time, to our snack, fort, and craft making experiences; doing a photo shoot of this nature is an opportunity to preserve a very special moment in time. Having a young family is by no means easy, but I am certain we’ll turn around one day and miss these earlier years, wondering where all the time went. These photos are a reminder of this precious time. Jessica is professional, respectful, laid back and has a tremendous eye for capturing the special moments. She made the whole experience comfortable and completely natural as we went on with our afternoon and just let her snap away! I know that these memories will be near and dear to us for many years to come. If you have not considered a photo session like this before for your family, I strongly recommend it. And when you do, I hope you will call Jessica!” -Lisa S. Burnaby BC

Avaan Newborn Session || Surrey Lifestyle Newborn Photographer

I had the privilege to go and photograph this family once again. I went to their home for a session a few years ago when their daughter was born. They had their 3rd baby last month. It is so nice to go back and see the kids and how much they have grown! Their newest little man was just a sweetheart and stayed awake the entire time! Here are some photos from their lifestyle newborn session.
