What is a Documentary Family Session?
It is a session where I capture a day in the life of your family. The session can take place in your home or an outdoor location. I follow you along and document your day. This can be a regular day at home including playing games, cooking, eating, doing laundry and anything you do on a daily basis. Or it could be an outdoor activity such as going for a walk, to the park, or to the beach. It could also be a special tradition such as going to the pumpkin patch, decorating the Christmas tree or family get togethers). The session could be anything you want it to be. I would basically be a fly on the wall following you around and taking photos of your day! My goal in these sessions is to capture real moments in your life as it is now!
What if you don’t like getting your photo taken?
A Documentary session is perfect for anyone who doesn’t like to get their photo taken. There is no preparation and NO stress. You do not have to get dressed up, you do not need to worry about your kids cooperating and smiling for the camera and there is no posing. You don’t even have to look at the camera! It is super relaxed and fun. You won’t even know I am there. All you have to do is be yourself and spend some quality time with your family doing what you love to do on a daily basis.
What I love about Documentary Photos?
I have a 3 year old daughter and she is at such a fun age right now. She has such a big personality and I love watching her develop. She is also very funny and keeps us entertained all day with the things she does and says and her many expressions. Documentary photos capture real life and emotion. I love being able to capture genuine moments of her playing with bubbles, reading a book, helping me in the kitchen, the struggle of naptime, etc. These are the memories I want to have and be able to pass on to her as she gets older. Time goes by so fast so it is nice to be able to freeze some of these moments and look back on them years from now.
What do clients think about Documentary sessions?
“We recently had Jessica come to our home to do a documentary session for a day in the life of our family. We could not be more pleased with Jessica’s photos and the candid memories that were captured that day. From the look on our daughter’s face when she was trying to hide behind a leaf during hide and go seek, to the cuddles my husband received during an impromptu story-time, to our snack, fort, and craft making experiences; doing a photo shoot of this nature is an opportunity to preserve a very special moment in time. Having a young family is by no means easy, but I am certain we’ll turn around one day and miss these earlier years, wondering where all the time went. These photos are a reminder of this precious time. Jessica is professional, respectful, laid back and has a tremendous eye for capturing the special moments. She made the whole experience comfortable and completely natural as we went on with our afternoon and just let her snap away! I know that these memories will be near and dear to us for many years to come. If you have not considered a photo session like this before for your family, I strongly recommend it. And when you do, I hope you will call Jessica!” -Lisa S. Burnaby BC
